Pakistan is an independent country in South Asia, bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan and Iran to the west, and China to the north, with a southern coastline along the Arabian Sea. It is home to diverse landscapes including towering mountain ranges like the Karakoram and Himalayas, vast deserts, fertile plains, and the Indus River – one of the world’s oldest river systems.
A republic since its independence in 1947, Pakistan was founded as a homeland for Muslims of the Indian subcontinent. Islam is the dominant religion, but the country is also home to historical Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist sites. Major attractions include the majestic K2 (the world’s second-highest mountain), the ancient ruins of Mohenjo-Daro, the Badshahi Mosque, Shandur Pass, the Hunza Valley, and the architectural wonders of Lahore Fort and Faisal Mosque.
Pakistan shares cultural and historical ties with Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia. It features a rich blend of ethnicities, languages, and traditions, with Urdu as the national language and English widely used in government and education.
